Eco Friendly Ganesha.


Plaster,  is one of the most universally used term.  Most of our Ganesha idols are made up of plaster of paris.  Unfortunately this does not disintegrate easily and the idol floats in water after immersion.  To add more to the woes, the chemical dyes and colors being used to colour them contain poisonous elements. Particularly, Red, Blue, Orange and Green colours contain Mercury, Zinc oxide, Chromium and Lead, the potential causes of developing cancer.

Parisaraganapati.net is the hub of the activities for the  Eco friendly Ganapati project of Youth For Seva. The main aim of this project to promote eco-friendly practices during Ganapati pooja celebrations and also to promote awareness and understanding about the spiritual and cultural ideals behind Ganapati pooja, ideals which have been obscured by the recent trends.

Key aspects of this eco-friendly celebrations are

  1. use of unpainted clay idols for Ganapati pooja,
  2. use of nature based dyes for painting Ganapati idols,
  3. proper disposal of idols and other pooja material. Another key aim of this project is

• Get details of makers, dealers, shops for clay, unpainted, natural dye painted Ganapati idols.

• View Videos, documents on preparation of eco-friendly clay Ganapati idols, nature based dyes.

• View Research Project reports on environmental pollution during Ganapati idol immersion

• View Videos, transcripts of the messages from DharmaGurus, Scholars.

• Interact with others in the Forum to help share information on all the above.

• Get Links to other organizations that are working for promoting eco-friendly Ganapati celebrations.

A list of shops making or selling unpainted clay idols of Ganapati,  or idols painted with colors obtained from natural dyes. This list has entries obtained by Youth For Seva volunteers, and other concerned NGOs, individuals. There is no sort of guarantee involved with respect to the nature of the paints used for the painted idols. Another reason, for you to just buy unpainted Ganapati idols. -

    Hope we may ‘update’ our religious practices in line with eco-friendly concerns, so that they are no more harmful to the nature and climate, earth, water, fire, Akasha, and air, but in addition keep them clean and cleaner.
